Symantec's philanthropic goal is to help create a sustainable and diverse future for the technology industry, which includes a focus on youth STEM education and online safety.
We view our engagement with youth holistically – we must equip them with the practices and know-how that will protect them online today, but we also must help them prepare for the future opportunities our industry offers. To lay the foundation for students' future success and to build a pipeline of qualified talent for our industry.
Demonstrating our commitments, in 2014 Symantec set a goal to "excite, engage and educate one million students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education through global nonprofit partnerships, with an emphasis on computer science and cybersecurity, by 2020."
We have numerous initiatives underway that are bringing us closer to our goals. Below we are proud to highlight two recent examples:
- Our Surf Smart program, created with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), has completed Phase 3 with at total of 281,000 Surf Smart-trained online safety advocates across 44 countries and five continents worldwide.

- Symantec UK's participation in a recent TeenTech event. TeenTech holds hands-on events and activities to demonstrate the various career opportunities in STEM.
