On Monday, Symantec announced more than $1 million in education grants to nonprofit organizations around the globe. Over the next couple weeks, we'll feature the perspectives of some of our nonprofit partners in this space. Today we hear from NPower, an organization providing IT services and training to nonprofits, schools, and young adults.

We applaud Symantec for their commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, announced earlier this week in celebration of International Corporate Philanthropy Day. In their Fiscal Year 2013, Symantec granted $1 million to nonprofits working in  STEM and literacy education, which included becoming a National Corporate Underwriter for NPower.

Since 2009, the Symantec and NPower relationship has continued to grow into what it is today. "What began several years ago as a single volunteer teaching in our workforce development program has now grown to include support for all our programs, including broad skilled employee volunteering, donation of Symantec security products and services, as well as leadership roles on our TSC Advisory Council and Board. Through the power of technology and the support of the Symantec community, we look forward to growing our partnership and to doing more social good together,” said Stephanie Cuskley, CEO, NPower

Peter Hancock, a Sr. Director of the Technical Sales Organization, was our first volunteer from Symantec. He has been a steward of the relationship, helping us create a mutually beneficial partnership with Symantec. Peter says,  “Our goal is to help each student follow their dreams of developing a career in the field of Information Technology by providing education, mentor programs, site visits, facilitating discussions about customer service, and donating enablement tools for personal learning or software for the classroom experience. There is great satisfaction when our team members spend time with the students to share how they have been able to provide for their own families, contribute to the success of corporate and government organizations, and add to the intellectual intelligence of the IT community through knowledge sharing and developing patented technologies.  The success of the relationship is a testament to the energy and spirit of the people and programs to have a positive impact on our local communities around the globe.”

We are thrilled that Symantec has made such a commitment to NPower and STEM education in general.
